Animated videos provide flexibility and range that sometimes just aren’t attainable with live-action video. Nothing is better than animation to explain a business concept, the minute inner workings of a product, or the forces that hold together the cosmos. GoAnimate offers a drag-and-drop-based online animation suite that is very easy to use, with access to thousands of character models, backdrops, and props to create scenario-based videos. It offers more than 100 text-to-speech character voices in 20 languages.
Now, GoAnimate has extended its animation platform’s capabilities even further with two new features: whiteboard animation, and integration with Lectora Online, the world’s premier eLearning software.
One of the most popular new forms of animation, whiteboard was made popular by RSA Animate whose videos developed tens of millions of followers. Whiteboard’s light, crisp visual style and non-stop motion make it very engaging for everything from eLearning to in-house presentations to national TV spots.
GoAnimate has pre-loaded its Whiteboard Animation theme with thousands of hand-sketched assets, including props, backgrounds, and hundreds of character actions applicable to a wide variety of professional and business settings. When displayed, these assets appear to be drawn by a hand holding a marker pen. The video producer merely inserts the assets, and GoAnimate automatically generates the hand action—sketching or erasing. The timing of the drawing action can be adjusted to fit the timing of the video script.

Elements appear on-screen in the sequence in which they were added to the video, but the producer can drag and drop them along a timeline to re-order them and ensure the right asset appears at precisely the right time in the script.
Producers should understand that every single asset is drawn on the screen—characters, backgrounds, and props don’t just appear or fade in—so the voice-over should play continuously to cover the action, and using a minimal number of assets keeps the timing optimal.
GoAnimate offers a set of handwritten fonts that are by design appropriate and effective for whiteboard animation, whether for large titles or paragraphs of copy. The fonts, with a selection of colors, appear to have been drawn by hand.
Lectora Online, the cloud version of the world’s most popular courseware authoring tool, enables companies to include videos as part of their online training courses. GoAnimate now integrates with Lectora so that eLearning developers can produce a GoAnimate video—whether whiteboard or other style of animation—and publish it directly to Lectora Online.
Once you create a GoAnimate video, simply go to the video’s page on the GoAnimate site and select Share/Export. Click the Lectora Online icon, log in, and hit Activate Feature to connect the GoAnimate and Lectora accounts. Once executed, this connection step will not be necessary in the future.
The next step is to click on Convert Video, which exports the video to the Lectora Online media library. After the export finishes (you’ll receive an email when the video is ready), you log back in, create a title or open an existing one and mouse over to Insert. Click the video icon, open the Import drop-down, and select Media Library. From My Media, click on the video you want to insert, click Select, and OK. Your video will be added to your title.

“We see ourselves as video enablers. We solve the hardest problem—creating video clips from scratch. With the launch of the Whiteboard Animation theme, we’ve put another popular video style into the toolkit of our subscribers,” said GoAnimate chief operating officer Gary Lipkowitz. “The other side of the coin is delivery. We want to get these video clips into eLearning deliverables as efficiently as possible. This integration with Lectora Online is a major step in that direction.”
Founded in 2007, GoAnimate enables people to produce a wide range of custom videos—from scratch—in the cloud—using drag-and-drop tools. To date, the platform has more than five-million registered users worldwide and one-million unique monthly visitors. For more information, please visit http://goanimate.com.
